What To Expect

Overview

  • The Lower Antelope Canyon has become one of the favorite attractions for tourists and photographers around the world. The Navajo name, Hasdeztwazi, means spiral rocks with an arch shape. And many years ago, pronghorn antelopes wandering around this place in groups freely, thus we call it "Antelope Canyon".
  • Antelope canyon is famous for its wave-like structure and the light beams that shine directly down into the openings of the canyon, creating a super natural appearance. Many travellers and photographers have been attracted here, regard it as a place where dreams come true.
  • Different from the flat ground of Upper Antelope Canyon, Lower Antelope Canyon requires visitors to climb upside and down through staircases and ladders. It feels like you are entering a new planet, starting a magical adventure. There are steel ladders anchored into the canyon walls. The ladders vary from 3 ft. to 25 ft. being the longest. Ladders over 8 ft. have handrails in place. The canyon is easily accessible going in and out. There are escape rope ladders placed on top of the canyon, in metal boxes, for any type of emergency.

My husband and I took the August 27, 2024 tour to the Lower Antelope Canyon. Our guide was Keola. From the start to the end we loved the tour and all our appreciation goes to our guide Keola. He was patient with us all, provided all the safety measures, knowledgeable details of how the canyon was formed. Many thanks to Ken's Tours and the Navajo people for preserving such an amazing natural beauty.
