Mount Aso
Mount Aso, located in the northeastern part of Kumamoto Prefecture in Kyushu, is a famous active volcano in Japan with a cratered shape that is rarely seen in the world. It is one of the few places where you can see an active volcano up close. You can gaze down into the caldera from a safe distance and see the white smoke rising from the crater, creating a breathtaking experience of nature's power and stunning beauty.
Aso Sangokusenri
Aso Sangokusenri is a prairie located at the northern foot of Mt. Umagatake. There is a pond formed by rainwater in the center of the prairie, and cattle and horses graze on the prairie, providing a diverse range of scenery throughout the year. The 20,000-hectare grassland is so vast that you can enjoy a leisurely walk in the lush green grassland, watch free-ranging cows and sheep, and breathe in the fresh air of the mountains, giving you the illusion of being in a fairyland.
Aso Volcano Museum (Admission: JPY 1,100, own expenses).
The Aso Volcano Museum, facing the Kusazenri shore, showcases the topography, geology, flora, and fauna of Aso under the theme of “Aso Volcano”. The museum has a wealth of fascinating information about the history of Aso Volcano. Not only can you witness the formation of the Aso volcano through a giant diorama, but the museum also provides valuable information about other volcanoes in Japan and around the world. The museum also has a live broadcast of the Nakadake caldera using the latest camera system.
Kusasenri Horseback Riding Experience (Optional: approximately 5 minutes and 1,500 yen for A course, 20 minutes and 4,000 yen for B course, and 25 minutes and 5,000 yen for C course)
Would you like to experience a relaxing horseback riding experience in the beautiful surroundings of Aso? With experienced staff holding the ropes, even children and first-time horseback riders can ride with ease. Experience the comfortable cool breeze with the gentle horse and take a natural stroll ~ Kusachi Chisato is located so you can experience the thrill of horseback riding on the lush green prairie and feel nature's handiwork , including a pillar of volcanic smoke in the distance.

The two-rider course is only available for children up to elementary school age. Business hours: 9:00-16:00, with a business period from early March to early December.

There is no guide , so you'll have to check in desk the flight yourself. It may be necessary to share space with other guests.

Take a helicopter ride to see the inside of Mount Aso's crater from the air! This is a helicopter tour that offers a panoramic view of the inside of the active volcano caldera and the world's largest caldera, Mount Aso from the air. The view from the helicopter's window is breathtaking. The smoke and dust from the volcano is quite striking. In different seasons, you can see azaleas blooming in Fukamushima, burnt fields, green meadows, and snowy landscapes.

Mt. Aso boasts one of the world's few large calderas and the Gaiwakuyama mountain range, which can be seen from the Aso Five Mountains. Aso specialty products can only be purchased here, such as seasonal vegetables, fruits, meats, dairy products, desserts, and handmade bento. A statue of Usopp of the Straw Hat Pirates is displayed in the Aso Station plaza as part of a collaborative project between Kumamoto Prefecture and “King of Thieves," a popular manga written by the prefecture's manga artist, Eiichiro Oda.

The interior of the Aso Boy train has been designed with a strong focus on children's experiences. There are as many as 101 mascots, “Kuro,” who accompany children on their journeys at all times. Furthermore, the train has many child-friendly features, such as healthy food and safety soft bags. The train's seats are " large and small” in design and can be swiveled 360 degrees, and the children's seats are designed with special footrests and backrests. To meet the needs of children, the train is equipped with amenities such as a wooden ball play pool, a mini tea room, and a library.
Mascot Kuro
“Kuro is the mascot of JR Kyushu, and after meeting the Aso Boys Train, he became the virtual stationmaster of the train. Kuro not only creates a child-friendly atmosphere, but also serves as a messenger of friendship, interacting with children, adults, and other IP partners. Blackie can be seen everywhere on the train, from the body, interior to souvenirs, and adds a lot of excitement to children's journeys.
